A multi-stream research programme developed, which responded to key industrial, regulatory and scientific demands from the risk management and insurance markets.
By summer 2007, the Network expanded to include three US and one Japanese institution. WRN membership has now grown to support around fifty institutions addressing the full spectrum of risks covered by the insurance industry.
The Network has assisted the research behind hundreds of peer reviewed academic articles including many ground breaking papers. This research has been incorporated into insurance sector models, methodologies and transactions to improve the market's understanding, resilience and coverage of risk.
Since 2008, WRN personnel have been appointed to a range of senior public science appointments including the UK Prime Minister's Council for Science and Technology, the Natural Environment Research Council, and the Belmont Forum-ICSU-ISSC Earth System Research for Global Sustainability Initiative.
In 2011, the WRN co-led the international Summit on Managing Extreme Events with the US National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC.
In recognition of its consistent contribution to the industry, the WRN has received the annual Worldwide Reinsurance Award for Analytics in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
