Willis Research Network Goes to Washington
Willis Research Network (WRN) Chairman Rowan Douglas will address delegates at the World Bank's Understanding Risk conference, taking place 1-4 June in Washington, DC. Leading a session on Climate Modelling, Douglas will discuss how advances in higher resolution climate science are providing information that is critical to improving our understanding of current and future risks from extreme events.
The session will bring together some of the world's leading experts in the fields of meterology and climate research, inclduding representatives from the Met Office and the National Centre for Atmospheric Research, to explain how the evolution of modelling techniques, coupled with the advent of large super-computers, are enabling scientists to see complex weather events, such as tropical cyclones.
Douglas will join Margareta Wahlstrom, the United Nations' Assistant Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Google's Geospacial Technologist Ed Parsons in delivering the final keynote speeches of the conference.
