Headline:
Megacity Flood Risk & Insurance - Prof Paul Bates examines future flood risk to megacities
News:
Modelling flood risk for emerging megacities is a market priority and significant technical challenge. Concern across cities in the Asia-Pacific region such as Jakarta, Bangkok, Shanghai and Manila is particularly acute.

The scale, growth and complexity of megacities, including land use, drainage and exposure, coupled with access to consistent and reliable data makes quantitative risk assessment difficult.

Professor Paul Bates, Professor of Hydrology, University of Bristol, and member, Willis Research Network used examples from two cities to illustrate these challenges, describe new techniques and approaches that can overcome them, and explore how future catastrophe models can best reflect the unique characteristics of flooding within these conurbations.
