Title:
The Clustering of Hazard Events
Published:
7/8/2008
Type:
Presentation
Fields:
Atmospheric
Authors:
Prof David Stephenson, WRN Senior Acadmic, University of Exeter
Summary:
Find out why hydrometeorological hazard events are not independent and what this means for estimates of annual losses, reinstatement premiums etc.
Description:
Among other things, Prof Stephenson ascertains that the dependency between events is an inevitable consequence of event probabilities depending on time-varying background factors. He also explains how generalised linear and other statistical regression models can be used to investigate and quantify the dependencies e.g. clustering of European windstorms.
